The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship just landed even more star power in advance of its highly-anticipated 2018 season.

On the heels of two significant team announcements in July that confirmed the return of Team Penske and Joest Racing to full-time IMSA competition, a pair of high-profile driver announcements Tuesday afternoon further confirm the unprecedented momentum of the WeatherTech Championship’s Prototype class and its Daytona Prototype international (DPi) platform.

The results only tell half the tale in one of the better underdog stories of the NASCAR season. Right there among NASCAR XFINITY Series stalwarts Team Penske, Richard Childress Racing and Joe Gibbs Racing in the top-five was the No. 07 Branson Supply/MotorCrush Chevrolet owned by Bobby Dotter, a lower-budget team finishing fifth with Lally at the wheel.
